With Such a well respected and beautifully maintained golf course on our doorstep, our committe launched two initiatives to get more people playing and enjoying our magnificent golf course especially our local ladies and junior / teen golf.
Point Chip and Sip
On Thursday the 2nd of October we launched SHE LOVES GOLF - Point Chip and Sip at the Golf Stop in Timaru. A fabulous event where Hami from
Aorangi Golf helped us arrange and coach the 27 ladies that turned up for this event. We were so grateful to one of our very own club members and past President - Warren Leslie for hosting this raucous bunch at The Golf Stop.
Our ladies received an overview in these three areas: Golf Etitique, “What’s in the Bag?” putting, and driving on the simulator with assistance from Golf Coach Mark Scott and our very own young lady golfer - Charlotte Low.
After everyone had a lesson through these four activities, it was time for bubbles, juice and nibbles - all kindly donated by the golf club.
They have since had another two golf sessions here at Pleasant Point, where a team of volunteers having been helping teach the basics of golf and or have been walking with the ladies while they have been playing ambrose.
Junior and Teen Golf
We saw Neville Burt with his volunteers back in the driving seat offering his time and skill to bringing on board our youngest participants.
This year we leveraged our presence on social media to bring us more youth.
When the word went out - the response was nothing less than incredible. From past Free lessons that we offered we were able to run one session. This year we had to break these into three sessions with a record breaking 30 new juniors!
From 9am until 10am its the juniors - under 10’s. And from 10am - 11am its the teen ages and we have an additional teenage group from 11am -12pm.
Neville also runs an hour session on Tuesdays from 3.45pm - 4.45pm for advanced junior golfers.
A weekly Twilight Socail Golf has been planned to bring these two sets of new golf enthusiasts together for a fun and enjoyable evening of golf over the summer.
With Such positivity for Pleasant Point Golf - we look froward to seeing more of our “Newbies” out there enjoying our club as much as we do!
